INTRODUCTION

Ergonomics (Or Human Factors) is a scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among human and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance (International Ergonomics Association 2015)

This course provides an overview of musculoskeletal disorders, their signs and symptoms, and ergonomic risk factors. You will learn how to apply ergonomic principles in the workplace to reduce injury and increase human performance based on the Guidelines on Workplace Ergonomics Risk Assessment 2017 launched by Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) Malaysia.

Course Aim

This program will provide methodology and skills necessary to enable members to identify, prioritize and eliminate or reduce employee’s exposure to ergonomic related workplace risk factors. This course illustrates the principles with workshops and examples from worksites. The course is designed to encourage team presentations of real case studies to the management staff.

Course Objectives

This training will enable participants to:

  • Define “Ergonomic,” “Cumulative Trauma Disorders,” and “Overexertion” as they relate to the workplace
  • Explain the importance of using ergonomics within their workplace to prevent injuries
  • Recognize the primary occupational risk factors that contribute to overexertion injuries and illnesses
  • Demonstrate the ability to use simple ergonomic workplace assessment tools based on soon to be launched Guidelines of Workplace ergonomics
  • Risk Assessment by DOSH Malaysia.
  • Implement the basic solution methodologies used to eliminate or reduce an employee’s exposure to ergonomically-related workplace risk factors
