Safe Handling of Reach Trucks (2 Days)

In-house reach truck operator training, at your facility

This 2-day programme gives reach truck operators and material handling personnel the classroom knowledge and hands-on skill to operate a reach truck safely in racking and narrow-aisle environments. It’s delivered entirely in-house, at your site, on your own equipment.

Why the 2-day programme

Reach trucks work in tighter, taller, more racking-dense environments than a counterbalance forklift, and the stability and hazard picture is different as a result. This is MESH’s full, first-time certification pathway for reach truck operators — building the classroom understanding and practical competence needed before anyone is due for a refresher.

Who should attend

  • Reach truck drivers and operators
  • Material handling personnel who operate or work around reach trucks

What participants gain

By the end of the course, participants will understand:

  • Operator responsibilities and the legal obligations around reach truck operation
  • The stability principles specific to reach trucks
  • Common causes of reach truck accidents and how to prevent them
  • Safe operating behaviour and situational awareness in racking environments
  • Safe load handling, including in indoor racking and narrow-aisle conditions

Training combines theory lecture, practical training, case study and Q&A, with both theory and practical assessment.

Assessment and certification

Participants are assessed through classroom instruction and hands-on practical testing at your facility. On successful completion of both theory and practical assessment, MESH issues certification and a trained driver card, valid for 2 years, after which refresher training is required.

How delivery works

MESH’s team delivers the full 2 days on-site, using your own reach truck and your own racking layout, so operators train and are assessed in the actual environment they’ll be working in. The course is HRD Corp claimable.

Frequently asked questions

Is this course open to the public, or only for our company?

It’s in-house only, delivered at your facility for your own operators.

Do we need our own reach truck and racking for the practical session?

Yes, practical training and assessment use your equipment and racking layout at your site.

Is this the same as the 1-day refresher?

No. This 2-day programme is the full, first-time certification course. The 1-day refresher is for operators who are already certified and need to renew.

How long does certification last?

Certification and the trained driver card are valid for 2 years, after which refresher training is required.

Is the training HRD Corp claimable?

Yes, claimable through HRD Corp.

Do you provide a licence for this training?

You’ll receive a MESH training certificate and trained driver card — not a government-issued licence. Together they serve as straightforward, easily verifiable proof that the holder has completed the training, and some clients refer to this informally as a “licence,” though it isn’t one issued by the government.
