Legal Requirement
Occupational Safety & Health Act, OSHA 1994, Section 29A requires any employer with five or more employees to appoint an OSH coordinator for the purpose of coordinating occupational safety and health issues at the place of work.

Yes. Under Section 29A of the Occupational Safety & Health Act 1994 (effective 1 June 2024), any employer with five or more employees must appoint an OSH Coordinator. Non-compliance carries a penalty of up to RM50,000.
Current OSH law doesn’t require a dedicated Safety and Health Officer (SHO) for organisations under 500 employees (or 100 in high-risk industries). OSH-Coordinator was introduced to close that gap, giving smaller companies a DOSH-registered competent person for safety and health coordination without the full SHO requirement.

3 days, held alternately in Penang (Pearl City) and Kuala Lumpur (Cititel Midvalley), with new public cohorts roughly every 3-4 weeks.
No written examination. The course is assessed through in-class activities, and participants must maintain at least 75% attendance to complete it.
MESH submits the names of participants who meet the attendance requirement to DOSH/JKKP. Once submitted, participants can register themselves as the OSH Coordinator for their company.
