ISO 14001:2026 is the newest edition of the international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS), published by ISO on 15 April 2026. It replaces the 2015 edition (including its 2024 climate change amendment) and gives organisations a structured framework to identify and control the environmental impacts of their activities, meet applicable regulatory requirements, and continually improve environmental performance.
The 2026 revision is an evolution rather than a complete overhaul. It clarifies existing requirements, improves the standard’s structure and navigation, and strengthens emphasis on climate change, biodiversity, resource efficiency, and leadership and governance, while keeping the introduction of brand-new requirements to a minimum.
Yes. The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) has set a 36-month transition period, so existing ISO 14001:2015 certificates must be transitioned to the 2026 edition by April 2029 at the latest.
