ISO 22301:2019 – Business Continuity Management System (BCMS)

Overview

How confident is your organisation to continue operating despite a major interruption? Loss of IT systems is the most common interruption suffered by organizations, regardless of size or sector, but how would you fare with other problems, such as:

  • Severe weather
  • Pandemics or other disease outbreaks
  • Terrorist attacks on critical infrastructure
  • Flooding
  • Fire
  • Theft
  • Transport system failure
  • Major industrial accident
  • Any other threat particularly relevant to your organization

Often times, when the unexpected happens (eg, extended periods of rain, flooding, a key employee being ill, a long power-cut), a lack of business continuity planning has made it difficult for organizations to continue their activities. Some organisations actually go out of business as a result. Hence, ISO 22301 – Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) was introduced by the International Organization for Standardization. Once implemented, your organization can choose to get certified by Certifying Bodies.

Why Business Continuity Management System?

  • The realities of a globalized and highly competitive world is that fulfilling customer’s orders in a timely manner wherever they are in the world is pivotal.
  • The cost of a mishandled crisis is significantly higher than the cost of planning for a crisis.
  • A BCMS is a risk management strategy for your organisation.
